Power Connections and Moving the Point of Connection
When building residential housing/building projects in the ACT, there are often requirements imposed by utility providers, such as Evo Energy, relating to where the property owners can build.
When proposing to build a new dwelling or extension, the property owner may need to relocate their main power connections. We call this process referring to entities.
To build any structures in the ACT, we need the endorsement of the utility providers, including Evo Energy.
Evo Energy imposes these conditions, and they are essentially unappealable.
The electricity entities often aim to have the consumer meet the costs of undergrounding the main powerline connection.
To avoid this high cost of putting the power connection underground, it often makes sense to apply to move the above-ground point of connection away from the new building works.
Moving the point of connection to an alternative above-ground point of connection is best done before "referring to entities."
It is also best that your builder does make the application to request to move the point of above-ground connection as the utility provider may see this as an opportunity to mandate that it be put underground.
We encourage customers to make the application to move the point of above-ground connection independent of the builder and before referring to entities.
Here is how you make an application to move the point of connection.
To initiate the process to move an overhead point of connection, you will need to get in touch with an electrician accredited through EvoEnergy. Once you have communicated with one and locked them in for the work, they will be able to work to receive the necessary approvals and service marks to complete the transfer.
One of the accredited electricians that work with Canberra Granny Flats Builders and Fixed Price Extensions is Dan Baldes; his mobile is 0413499756, and his email is bladeselectrical@gmail.com .
